Clara Barbier Serrano
Soprano Clara Barbier Serrano, “Jeune Talent” of the Jaroussky 2022-23 academy and Oxford Lieder, is currently completing an artist diploma in music and contemporary creation at the Conservatoire National Supérieur of Paris. She graduated from the opera studio of the Royal College of Music in London in 2022 and from the Hochschule für Musik in Leipzig in 2020.
Her opera roles include 1. Knabe and Taumännchen at the Leipzig Opera, Papagena at the Verbier Festival Academy, Rodelinda, Königin der Nacht, Controller (Flight by J. Dove) at the Royal College of Music, Queen of the Night with Oxford Opera Company, Anne Page with British Youth Opera, Olympia with l’Avant-scène Opéra in Neuchâtel, Autonoe (understudy) at Opéra de Montpellier, and La Petite Sirène in Regis Campo’s opera of the same name in a co-production with the operas of Nice, Toulon, Marseille, Avignon and l’Arcal.
Her passion for Lied and melody has led her to perform in recital at the Amsterdam Opera (foyer), the Schumannhaus in Leipzig, LIFE Victoria Barcelona, Oxford Lieder Festival, Britten Pears festival, Aurora festival (NL), Bloomsbury Festival, London Song Festival.
Having received the Andrea Bocelli Foundation-Community Jameel scholarship in 2020, she has since shared the stage with Andrea Bocelli several times in Italy and abroad.
Born in Montpellier, Clara plays the violin, sings in her master’s degree and is interested in languages and musical training before specializing in singing. She is a prizewinner of the Concours de Béziers (2019), the Concours de Gordes (2022), the International Lied Duo competition in Groningen (2019), Lies Askonas competition (2022) and ASAO Nuevas Voces in Seville (2024).
Interdisciplinary and contemporary music projects are an important part of her work: she collaborates with a wide range of composers on new creations, including Rhona Clarke, Lise Borel, Alexandros Markeas and Martin Matalon.
Her future engagements include performances at the Manifest Festival at IRCAM, the Massy Opera, the Arènes Lyriques de Montmartre and the Marseille Opera. In 2024, she joins the 6th generation of Opera Fuoco artists.
